Infinity Forest
40x30” spray paint, lace, oil sticks, oil on wooden panel
I have been fortunate to of completed 3 residencies in France since 2008. I always start and end my trip in this magnificent garden. This is a particular one but as I have heard from friends there are many similar ones. It's just that the French are master gardeners and create these impressive results with planning and pruning. I could live and die in this place.
I hope my viewers will feel like they can jump into this garden and walk all day in it, every day.
This panel was started with many coats of spray paint. I use lace as a stencil and try to retain some of the original marks as I build the work. I use it to give the painting depth. Also since spray paint is so unpredictable along with the placement of the lace it provides chaos. I am forced to discover the painting through this maze of shapes. I adore the challenge of finding it. The result is a surprise and a joy to me.
